Study Animals

Working in a study area in central Oneida County that includes adjacent parts of Lincoln and Vilas Counties, we routinely identify pair members on each territory and have accumulated a record of  territory ownership during this period, which is posted here. Notice that some loons remain on a territory for 15 or more years. Others hold a territory only for a year or two. Some of the territory owners listed in the table were displaced from a first territory and shifted to a second, which is common in the species.
